CORPORATE WARGAME COURSE

a course that is…
…an extension to prevailing orthodox human resource development programmes and
processes…founded upon Aristotle’s philosophy, that…

`what we have to learn to do, we learn through doing’;

and further enhanced by developments in the art and sciences of continuous professional and adult education that further influence the designing and structuring of the courses leading to their adoption of training philosophies and rationale, that …

surprise-ambush by `militant-guerrillas’ enroute to accomplish mission
strategising and planning to neutralise offensive- effectiveness of the `militant-guerrillas’

professionals/adults learn much more effectively if the learning is facilitated for them to emerge more through their own efforts
learning, for most people, would be more effectively achieved if the processes for it were creatively and innovatively facilitated.

CONCEPT

Pushing Boundaries’ (PiBi) basic concept in the design and implementation of their modules and courses are shaped by their training philosophies and rationale, such that:

  • they are designed and implemented so that the learning emerged mostly, not from PiBi staff as instructors, nor as lecturers, or as teachers - they are merely facilitators – but more from the participants’ own selves, their course-mates, and the challenges of the natural elements of the outdoors;

  • the courses provide continuity from where orthodox contemporary teaching and learning in management, leadership and teamworking left-off. They convey to participants, a form of rationale: ``…now that you already possess knowledge of concepts, theories and principles through your studies at colleges and universities, or your attendance of courses, seminars and/or workshops, let’s see now how you apply these knowledge to practicalities…’

  • participants are facilitated to undergo highly hands-on practical based learning processes with high degree of realism, and in a `fun-way’.

FEATURES

Some main features of PiBian corporate wargame courses are that: participants are facilitated with opportunities and facilities to practise, in utterly realistic conditions and environment, of:

needs to manage uncertainties; needs to manage limited resources;
implications and consequences of needs to manage costs; The inevitability of needs to deal with real people under impactful influences of the natural elements such as: jungles, nights, rain, swamps, rapids, leeches, etc; as well as real phobias,personal preferences, likes and dislikes

group dynamics of needs to identify problems, make decisions, plan, and implement in highly fluid and `unfamiliar’ situations

needs to be effective at identifying opportunities and seizing them under very fluid situations;
accomplishing missions without fail, again under fluid situations (thus requiring leaders and managers to `think on their feet’).

CONDUCT

PiBian Corporate Wargame Courses, are sort of `vehicle’ employed to assist organisations in their continuous processes to keep on developing and improving the managerial, leadership and teamwork effectiveness of their people.

PiBi design and structure events and happenings for participants to assist them in linking knowledge of leadership, management and teamworking (usually in the form of theories, concepts and principles), to realities of actual and practical events and happenings.

This knowledge, they could have acquired through formal learning processes at colleges and/or universities; or seminars, lectures, talks, courses and work-shops; or even through such informal learning as own readings of relevant materials.

Events and happenings PiBi employed normally require problems to be identified; to be solved; and mission to be accomplished in teams of 8 – 12 people each.

several of the management exercises providing opportunities: to revise on previously acquired knowledge; to employ them to realities; build-teams; understand selves better as team-members.

PiBian courses have often been used by client-organisations as modules to establish common interpretations of situations that occur in teamworking such as about: pressures from competitors and of needs to minimise and manage uncertainties; individual contributions by team members to achieve a team’s common mission; and such like.

The most usual effects to people attending PiBian courses have often been that on they return to their workplaces as `comrades’ instead of mere work-colleagues. Basically, these are among results of them having faced challenges together, and usually have overcome them together. These challenges they overcame together usually leads to `breaking-down-walls-of- personal-interactions’ resulting in optimal effectiveness in teamworking.

analyses of actions and processes to solve problems/accomplish tasks during management-exercises for learning-points and their applications at the work-place (assisted by review of video-recordings)

Another strong feature of PiBian corporate wargame courses is the integration of personal development events that provide actual illustrations that `one can go beyond the usual beliefs of limits of one’s capabilities’.

Participants are provided with theories, principles and techniques in managing and overcoming fears and phobias – systematic desensitisation - through several challenging events of high-adventure that are also illustrations of the workability of these techniques.

several events in process of systematic desensitisation towards overcoming fear and phobias

This has proved to be of profound effectiveness in helping people to strive towards excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities. This is basically because, if previously they would easily give-up when faced with tasks or problems they felt were difficult, it has been proven that after the course, they have usually graduated to being able to take on much more difficult tasks or problems.
